The statue of Thiruvalluvar has a height of 40.6 meters. The height of the pedestal on which the statue is standing is 11.5 meters. The total weight of the statue is seven thousand tons. The statue of Thiruvalluvar is located near the Vivekananda rock memorial. The designer of the sculpture is DR Ganapati, a renowned expert in the area of temple architecture. The statue was hit by tsunami but is power could not demolish the strength of the monument.

Swami Vivekananda was the greatest exponent of Hinduism to the west. The rock is called the rock of goddess Kumari. It is said that the goddess did meditation here. Tsunami hit the monument in the year 2004 but it was unaffected because of its strength. There is a belief among some that Vivekananda meditated on the rock for 3 days in order to receive enlightenment.
