TirupatiAttractions

Tirupati is a beautiful religious town in India where life decides to drape itself in colorful attires. Tirupati is the supreme temple and abode of Lord Venkateswara, situated at the foot of Tirumala hills, the lush green Eastern Ghats in Chittoor district in the southeastern part of Andhra Pradesh. It is at a distance of 700 kms from Hyderabad. One of the most important pilgrimage centers in India. Venkateshwara means a Lord who destroys the sins of his devotees. This is the main reason why so many people believe and worship him.

The Tirumala temple has grown to become the richest of the temples in the world. There are 13 places for hair tonsuring (Kalyana Kattes), performed for free, or for a nominal fee. This hair collected is washed, dried and sorted according to length. It is then sold to the wig making industries. An estimate says that an average of 800 kilos of hair is collected per day, which can earn the temple about 16 crore rupees per year. The ministry of NCES (Non-conventional Energy Sources) designed eco-friendly solar cooking system for Tirupati to cook 2 meals a day and serve about 15,000 devotees. The Tirupati Venkateshwara temple needs about 4,500 kilos of ghee every day. About 1,100 tins of ghee were used to be supplied every day. But since 2004, the National Dairy Development Board has been supplying ghee through piped lines to the temple.

History of Tirupati:-
The source of the origin of the name is not very clear, but it is supposed that the word Tirupati comes from the incorporation of two words - Thiru and Pati. Thiru is a Tamil word which means ‘respectable’ while Pati translates to ‘husband’. Thus, the literal importance of Tirupathi comes out to be ‘good husband’. The hills of Tirumala, which lie close to the city centre, are the second oldest rock mountains in the world. There is no historical evidence to suggest who built the Tirupati Temple, but it has come to be controlled and upgraded by many rulers over the years since the 4th century AD. The temple of Tirupati, unlike the other temples of South India, was able to ward off the invasion by Muslim rulers in the 14th and the 15th century.

Tirupati remains hot and humid during summer, while the winter season features a cool pleasing environment. Although the temple town is visited all through the year, the best time to come here is between September and March. As the city features pleasing weather and thriving festivity at this time of year. Monsoon brings relief after scorching summer, and the entire region turns green & refreshing after the first shower of rain.
